Welcome to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Education Trust
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Education Trust was established in January 2018.
The current academies within the trust are St. Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy and St. Aidan’s Catholic Academy.
The trust is situated within the R.C. Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle within Monkwearmouth Catholic Partnership. Both academies are situated in the City of Sunderland, the city by the sea, in the North-East of England.
Our schools have been serving the community within the city, and beyond, for over a hundred years and have a track record of success over time in personal development, examination results and progression to higher education and the world of work. We have many alumni locally, nationally and internationally in many and varied fields: public service, private sector business, media and sport.
By developing, holistically, the individual skills and talents of our students we hope they make a powerful, and positive, contribution to family, parish, and community.

We offer 35 Advanced level courses within a large and buoyant sixth community of c. 400 students. Our Director of Sixth Form is Mrs. H. Smith. She is assisted by Mrs. S. Russell and Ms. E. Our sixth form students are based in Gabriel House (St. Anthony’s), Somerleyton House (St. Anthony’s) and The Briery (St. Aidan’s) which are distinct sixth form bases. Advanced level classes are timetabled across both schools enabling a wide choice which appeal to the individual skills and talents of each student.

Join Our Trust
Our trust has an excellent record of success with a wide range of educational visits, clubs and societies, developing each individual beyond the classroom, and importantly a track record of examination success over time. We are continually developing staff and students through our National Teaching School (Beacon Teaching Alliance) and we also have strong links with Schools North East and our Diocesan Family of schools. Both schools pride themselves on their outward facing approach and have well-established links within the city and beyond which include employers, training providers, schools and universities not just locally but nationally and internationally.
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Education Trust welcomes applications from our family of primary schools.
